When your children don’t visit because they love you
When friends no longer invite you to dinner
Because they love you
When packages are delivered to the porch with a glove covered hand
Because they love you
When you really want to go to the neighborhood gathering, the class, your business, the beach
But you don’t
Because you love you
And the others too
When the obituary reads he died of COVID
You wonder
Was it his call to serve that put him in harm's way
He’s gone
At his request
There will be no memorial to celebrate his life
Because he loves you
